Welcome all to PaperDesigners. This is my first entry, glad you could stop by!
So this group is all about papercraft design - not building, design. So feel free to post pictures of papercraft patterns and any models you designed yourself to the group.
We're looking for members, and admins, so come on in if you're interested! If you're a skilled designer, a new designer, or just a builder who's interested in getting into design, or a builder looking for new models to build, all are welcome!
So, short post today, but just to say welcome, and thanks for everything!

Usable programs and addons
Just to share my collection for those who might need inspiration.
3DripperDX addon for Blender
Whenever you use 3Dripper, you get deformed model. And sometimes it is the only way to rip models. This addon for Blender can fix deformation for you as automatic process. Success rate 99,5 - 100%. Might remain very slight deformation.
PDFCreator
Of course this is a need! I mean microsoft offers some basic printer, but ths one can strike a quality, when you need very high definition texture and no compression.
PDOTools
A need for people working with Pepakura, when you don't do backups. With this you can extract your model and textures from yours
Papercraft from start to finish - give it shape
On the lesson of drawing with right brain hemisphere we were learning to draw what we see, with creating our template we must do even more. For in drawing we just "print" our vision on paper, but in papercraft design we must think in space, in 3D, quite literaly.
Papercraft designing anyway gives geometry we learned at school into good use. (proof that we don't learn only sh** at schools) Even handy drawing template for propher cube can be quite a challenge. not to mention coloring, when your graphic on cube goes across the sides of it.
And if you think that you don't need geometry in 3D software, you are again wrong. You still need to know
Papercraft from start to finish - matter of choice
Before you actualy beggin to design, you need some basic idea what and how you wanna to do your papercraft. What will you be building, how detailed, maybe even the material and other stuff. Because papercrafting from start to end can require a lot of thinking outside the box. Of course you can do cubecraft, but even there you can do more than just simple cube.
Good advice to beggin with is: be aware of your level of experience. Don't expect yourself to do masterpiece if you never did any papercraft. Also don't think that you cannot do great piece without profesional stuff. I do very fine work even with my small collection of scisors and liqu
6 things in Blender once you learn you use 4ever
As papercraft designer I use specific set of tools in Blender and I found these really usefull. What I did in three programs, I can do all in Blender. These will come really handy for everyone who creates papercrafts in this software.
Background images
Find in right site menu, in default hidden under + (hotkey N), second from the right
BG images are visible only in ortho view in watching directly in views left, right, top, etc. (alt key helps reaching them)
There is nothing so much usefull when modeling using reference pictures like placing them into program and modeling without need to switch programs, but measuring with them directly

This is really nice group. It really should have more attention, pitty that it is so small. I'm thinking about writting some tuts for Blender as it is my program of choice (seriously it puts all other into pocket in both its size, price and performance, just not that much user friendly...)
And I think that there is lack of interest in offering templates as I do them even as request and most of them I stop working on when they are unfolded, I don't glue much of them in fact. I think that it would help the group, at least a bit. You know, I'm designer, but not much of a builder.
Also some interviews with paprecraft designers might get some interest...
